Waltz Op. 64 No. 1 in Db Major "Minute Waltz"-F. Chopin

F. Chopin - Waltz Op. 64 No. 1 in Db Major "Minute Waltz"

🎼 About the Piece

Light, rapidly circling figures launch a sparkling dance, with quick melodic turns and a buoyant accompaniment creating an immediately recognisable sense of playful motion.

A more broadly singing section offers a lyrical contrast before the lively material returns, giving the compact waltz both brilliant energy and a graceful range of expression.

✨ Sheet Music Highlights

The score develops even fingerwork and a relaxed rotating movement, requiring the quick figures to remain clear while the accompaniment supports a dependable and lightly shaped dance pulse.

Ornaments and changes of melodic emphasis encourage sensitive voicing, while clean releases and discreet pedalling preserve the freshness of the rapid texture.

🎹 Performance & Recommendation Points

This waltz suits pianists refining agility and elegance together, where fluent technique should convey a light character and a clear musical direction rather than speed alone.

Choose a tempo that allows every turn of the figure to remain controlled, and give the lyrical section enough space to make the return of the dance feel bright and naturally renewed.

Have a happy performance!
